Deadlock at Hormuz: Threats, Warnings, and High-Stakes Diplomacy Dominate Islamabad Talks
There is no fresh update from Islamabad.
Only this much is known: Iran and the United States have completed two rounds of talks.
Pakistan wants at least one more round of negotiations.
This could possibly take place later today or tomorrow, Sunday.
But a surprising development has emerged—I will come to that at the end.
If we ask what the essence of today’s talks was, the main issue discussed was Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz is למעשה jointly owned by Iran and Oman.
The United States is trying to force its way into having a share in it.
This reflects the greed of Trump and his circle. Trump himself had said on his Truth Social platform that “we are here to make money.” He added that there would either be a partnership with Iran, or the entire Hormuz would belong to the United States.
No decision could be reached on this issue in today’s talks.
If the negotiations collapse, they will most likely break down over Hormuz.
While the talks were ongoing, Trump made a move.
He claimed that Hormuz was being evacuated.
Iran issued a warning to a warship heading toward Hormuz as soon as it moved past the port of Fujairah. Iran warned that if the vessel did not turn back within 30 minutes, it would be attacked.
This information also reached Islamabad, creating a tense and chaotic atmosphere there.
After this, Reuters reported that the United States had agreed to release frozen Iranian funds held in foreign banks. About an hour after the Reuters report, the United States denied the claim. However, as of the time this report was being written at night, Al Jazeera was still maintaining that the report was accurate, saying that the U.S. had agreed in principle, though no official announcement had yet been made.
In the evening, after the two rounds of talks concluded, delegations from both countries exchanged written texts.
What exactly was in these texts is not known, and there is no media reporting on their contents either. However, it appears that both sides shared details of the points on which they had reached some level of agreement. It is quite possible that these points will be included in a joint statement expected tomorrow.
While the talks continue in Islamabad, a psychological propaganda war is also underway—on both sides, from Iran and the United States. Rumors are being actively spread as well.
Now, coming to the surprising development:
Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, posted a brief tweet.
In it, he said: “Under my leadership, Israel will continue to fight Iran’s terrorist regime and its allies, unlike Erdogan (the President of Turkey), who shelters them and massacres his own Kurdish citizens.”
Now, decode this statement.
Netanyahu’s tweet clearly suggests that Trump has left Israel isolated. Netanyahu has been issuing threats since yesterday. Earlier, he used harsh language to threaten Spain; today, he is using similar language against Turkey’s President.
This is also the biggest weakness of right-wing politics—they often resort to the language of threats. It is as if, in Israel’s view, countries like Spain and Turkey do not even matter. Using such language for the heads of sovereign nations is highly objectionable.
So one can only hope and pray that the United States and Trump come to their senses and break free from Israel’s influence. However, the American elite—entangled in the Epstein files—appears to be seeking its survival through war. The moment there is peace, Trump may have to answer questions related to the Epstein files and could face impeachment.
By then, the midterm elections in the United States will arrive, in which Trump’s defeat seems likely.
This war, it appears, is being waged for self-preservation.
But the question remains—how long can that continue?
